| Being checked out by the NICU team. |
With Evelyn we had not only a lot of unknowns, but a lot of additions to our surgery. I was going to have my tubes tied and also have my ab muscles repaired (I had a complete diastasis recti of my top ab muscles= they had ripped completely a part during my pregnancy).
We had expected to go back at 11, and it kept getting pushed back. Which led to us being placed in an OR that wasn't usually used for c sections. The video system that had been so amazing during luke's birth, didn't work in this room (it allows you to see everything they do after the baby is out - weighing, etc). The team had a hard time getting me completely numb. I had to have two types of anesthesia because of the amount of surgical things I was having done - an epidural and a spinal (spinals last about 2 hours, the epidural was in case our surgery took longer than 2 hours). When it took a lot longer to get me numb than I expected - coupled with not having Matt with me for longer than I expected - I lost it. I couldn't stop crying. I was scared. There was just too much unknown.

| My rock, my Matty. |
After I was numb, they brought Matt in, and he went from what he expected to be - the comedian in the room - to my caretaker - once he saw my face. I could tell you a million times how amazing my husband is, and that wouldn't be enough.
A few minutes later, with Matt holding my hand, and our favorite nurse on my other side, Evelyn came out screaming. Not just crying, but screaming. Her lungs were fine. They took her over to the NICU team, who within 4 minutes, and after scoring an 8 on her apgar test, signed off on her and gave us the news she wouldn't need to go the NICU. We were SO surprised! And thankful! Our girl was fully developed even though she was early!!!
She weighed in at 6lb 1 ounce, and 18.5 inches (our longest baby!), born at 2:23pm on December 15, 2015.
