I (we) camped.

The only time that I can remember camping is when I was 14 with the Easler family.  Matt and his brothers camp a lot.  I will  go up for the day, but never, ever spend the night.  The idea of walking to the bathroom in the dark in the middle of the night is just not appealing.  Then we had Luke.  This boy was born to be outside.  He LOVES to go outside and asks non stop.  So I knew he would love every second of a camping weekend - and I was right.

Two week ago we packed up and headed to the great outdoors.  It was cold, a little rainy, relaxing, and a lot of fun.  And Matt will probably talk me into going back again.

Student of the Month

Ella's Board outside her room - all about her!

Noah and his best bud Eliza

How many children get the student of the month, the VERY first month, of their FIRST year of school?  Mine.  (Shamless gloating) Ella was awarded the class Student  of the Month for September.  We got to go to PTO for two things -  Ella getting her medal (she talked about it for days before the meeting), and the kids partcipated in National Book Month.

Noah dressed up as a wild thing from the childrens book Where the Wild Things Are.  They danced around and "made a roumpous" just like in the book.  Ella was a sleepy child (she was in her pajamas) who was read the book Goodnight Moon.

It was a great evening!

Ella got sick

Wednesday when Ella got home from school she was running a fever and threw up. The day before she had developed a cough and I assumed she just had a cold. Her throat was hurting so matt took her over to the local health plus clinic for a strep test and to get a doctors note to miss school the next day.

At the office they checked her oxygen stats and they were in the 80s. Not good. So they sent her straight to the Er. By the time I got there with the boys they had sent her back for a chest X-ray. Matt took the boys home and Ella got worse. Her fever spiked. She was unable to speak in complete sentences because she was having trouble breathing. Over the next few hours the decision was made to send her up the hill to mission hospital for observation. At McDowell hospital she was having to remain on oxygen for her stats to stay in a safe range. There they had given her breathing treatments and steroids. Ella loved the ride over. She said the ambulance was like a space ship. On the ride over we could tell things were getting better. At mission they were able to let her stay on room air and didn't have to I've her oxygen.

A few things happened to get her this sick. The X-ray showed what was thought to be pneumonia but upon further diagnosis was determined to be a condition where the tiny air sacs at the top of her left lung had collapsed. She was also diagnosed with a viral lung infection which caused the fever. Which brought in asthma like symptoms.

The next day we were released. Ella is doing much better.

I am thankful for so many things- the quick actions of the doctors, my friend Jen for coming to the hospital to advocate for me (she knew I would be a wreck), my girl for being so brave and strong, and for my Heavenly Father keeping his hand of protection on us.

The pictures are of Ella at McDowell before the transfer, on the space shop ride, and in the playroom on the peds floor at mission. She loved crafting in the play room!

17.8

My second month of weight watchers is over and I am proud to say I lost a little over 8 pounds this month. That brings my grand total to 17.8 since I began this journey. Jennifer Hudson wasn't lying : weight watchers works! I am a little over 25 pounds to my goal. And I will continue to post my updates once a month to keep me accountable!

Ps: I ran this week. Not consistently but in spurts. For a mile or so. That is a really big deal :). One of my end goals is to be able to run a 5k by next spring. Bring it on!

Benjamin is 2!

It seems like yesterday we were visiting Joey and rebecca in the hospital to meet sweet Benjamin. It has been such a joy to watch them parent and witness the sweet spirit Ben has grow. We were so glad to celebrate his second birthday today - and we loved the photo booth!

Pisgah!

Matt the kids and I plus Aunt Mel and Cameron trekked out into pisgah forest this past weekend. We hiked to a waterfall/cave where the boys discovered a crayfish and salamanders. And matt and the kids conquered sliding rock. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place!
