Awhile back matt and I did a marriage study and the first part of our book was how our parents marriages affected who we are in our marriage. How my relationship with my parents as a child through my teenage years shaped me to handle my adult relationships. While reading those chapters I couldn't help but be thankful for the true gift I have in my parents. The way they love me. The way they love each other. The example of how to have a marriage that reflects the gospel. The acceptance, selflessness, and unconditional support.
There's no denying I am his and he is mine. Our bellies both shake when we laugh. I raise my eyebrows the exact same way. We both know what we want and we go after it. We both have confidence and aren't scared by many things. We love sarcasm and he taught me how to be funny. He guided me just enough to be able to make my own decisions, but decisions with a good foundation based in a Christ centered life. He gave me independence and let go of me when he needed to, and I appreciate that. But. If I need him, all I have to do is turn around and he is right there.
My dad. The first man I loved. I am so thankful for him. I honor him today on this fathers day. I love you, dad.
